Project Objectives
The project has been set up to demonstrate the use of an innovative Air Cyclone Sampler by using immunological analysis methods to validate a new approach to monitoring pollen and fungi allergens in the air.
The new approach includes:

measuring the antigenicity/allergencity of particles in the air instead of quantifying pollen grains by their morphology
setting up a classification of pollen and other microbiological particles depending on their allergen load
being able to detect both pollen grains and smaller particles
setting up a common analysis protocol in view of standardisation
demonstrating the robustness and efficiency of the air sampler in 7 different bio-geographical climates
Expected Results
Preparation for the establishment of an automated and online collection and analysis system, to be used as the new standard tool to monitor pollen and other small microbiological particles with potential allergenic effect.
Completion of knowledge and improvement of air quality standards by adding allergen measurements to the pollen data network (European Aeroallergen Network)
Training of experts on the new air sampler
These results will enable the MONALISA project to contribute to the enhancement of assessing air quality and to provide better information.
