AND AEROBIOLOGY RESEARCH UNIT

British Aerobiology Federation - Small Grant

Applications are invited to apply for a British Aerobiology Federation (BAF) Small Grant. BAF Small Grants are accessible for BAF members to promote aerobiology. The maximum amount offered is £300 per grant. The funds are available for:

·        Fieldwork or research projects

·        Travel, subsistence and registration fees for non-BAF meetings

·        Purchasing books or scientific equipment

These Grants are open to all members of the British Aerobiology Federation, but BAF Small Grants cannot be used to support travel and/or accommodation at BAF-organised workshops and scientific meetings.

Awards will be made on the condition that a short report (maximum 2 sides of A4) is submitted to BAF made on completion of the BAF- funded activity, so that the results can be published in the BAF newsletter.

Awards will not be made to supplement existing undergraduate awards or to replace institutional funding for undergraduate or postgraduate research. Further, support for attendance at meetings will usually be considered only

if:

a)     the applicant is presenting a poster or paper;

b)     other supporting funds are not available;

c)      the application is submitted normally at least four months prior to the meeting.

Normally only one person will be supported from any one organisation to attend a meeting.

Applications based on hardship will be considered sympathetically and confidentially, but evidence to support such a claim will have to be provided.

Retrospective application will not be considered.
Deadlines for applications are November 1st in each year

Thunderstorm Asthma

Various members of the B.A.F. executive committee have been investigating episodes of Thunderstorm Asthma.  This is a phenomenon that is not fully understood, as not every thunderstorm triggers this condition and more research is required.

The committee are now looking for more BAF members who are interested in investigating the aerobiology of any future episodes as a group.

Please contact Ursula Allitt - see details on the committee page if you are interested.
