Pollen UK is the pollen and spore monitoring network of the United Kingdom. It has 20 sites ranging from Invergowrie in north east Scotland to Newport on the Isle of Wight in southern England and from Belfast in Northern Ireland, to Cambridge in the east. Some of the sites, namely London and Cardiff have records extending over several decades giving the longest continual data sets world wide for airborne pollen monitoring. Ten of the sites monitor all the main allergenic pollen types throughout the growing season. These sites form a basic network spread geographically over the UK. The data from these are sent to the European Aeroallergen Network data bank in Vienna. The other sites monitor grass pollen only and sample in the peak season, June and July, giving a denser coverage for this aeroallergen. All of the sites use a standard sampling scheme based on Burkard volumetric seven day spore traps located on exposed roof tops. The sites are run by various Institutions including Universities and Colleges, Hospital allergy clinics and Environmental Health Offices.
